Hello VTers,

Just wondering what you thought about this itinerary I am planning to undergo in Zambia for three weeks in July 2008. Any opinions, suggestion, criticisms, kudos or comments are welcome. I am especially interested in your opinions on the accommodations. Thanks.

DAY 01

Arrive in Lusaka. You are met on arrive by our representative and transferred to The Holiday Inn in downtown Lusaka for overnight. Your driver/guide is introduced to you

DAY 02
Breakfast and at 08.00 hours you driver, meets up with you for your travel up the Great North road through Kabwe, Kapiri Mponshi, Mkushi and Serenje covering slightly over 500 KM to Mutinondo Wilderness for 1 night stay with activities such as hikes to the top of the Muchinga Escarpment. Over-night on dinner, bed and breakfast basis.

DAY 03

Breakfast followed by a drive to the great North Road, to drive up to Mpika and onwards through Kasama to Mpulungu harbour on the Shores of lake Tanganyika. On arrival at the harbour you will be met and transferred by boat to Isanga Bay Lodge (or Mishembe if they will be ready for full catering) to arrive in time for overnight on full board basis with all excursions


DAY 04

Spend time here at the beach with additional activities being hikes to the top of the Kalambo falls. Pass local villages and their fields. Fishing Village
Visit to a local fishing village and have the chance to meet the headman, examine local fishing methods and nets. Meet the people and children. Also visit the village school. Canoeing: Canoe to the mouth of the Kalambo River, where there is good bird watching. Also canoe to the nearby village to see a church service in a mud hut church on the side of a hill overlooking the lake.

DAY 05
Breakfast followed by a boat transfer back to Mpulungu and catch the road transfer to Kasama after check in a Thorn Tree Guest House take a visit to Zambia’s finest coffee plantations: Kansato Farms and taste some of the home grown, roasted, ground coffee. Please note that they actually serve Kansato Coffee at Thorn Tree Guest House.

DAY 06
Breakfast followed by excursions to Mwela Rock Art to view the rock paintings, and a visit to Chishimba waterfalls with picnic lunch. After lunch transfer to Shiwa Ngandu for 2 nights stay at Kapishya Hot Springs lodge. Take time to relax today ahead of full activities the following day.

DAY 07

After breakfast travel to the Manor House to take a conducted tour of the Manor House and the estate grounds, visit the local school, the clinic and the local people. On the way back to Kapishya take a hike to the Bare Back Hill to see views of Lake Shiwa Ngandu and its surroundings. Return to Kapishya for lunch

After lunch continue with excursions starting with a rafting trip on the Manshya River to the Waterfalls, and your driver picks you from here and you travel to return to Kapishya Hot Springs Lodge for over-ngiht

DAY 08

Road transfer from Shiwa Ngandu to North Luangwa National Park for 3 nights stay at either Delia Camp or Buffalo Camp situated in areas well known for abundance in Wildlife. Yes North Luangwa provides a prestine wildlife experience, and most safaris here are on foot by way of walking safaris. Overnight on full board basis.

DAY 09 AND 10

Continue with your game viewing activities and overnight on full board basis

DAY 11
You leave from here today with through the Park with excellent opportunities for game viewing through the park until you cross the Mwaleshi River. And head for Luangwa Wilderness Lodge at Luambe National Park late afternoon in time to join in the afternoon game drive from this lodge. Overnight here on diner, bed and breakfast basis

DAY 12

Breakfast followed by a drive from here to Flat Dogs Camp (we will request for packed picnic lunch). This drive takes you through through The Nsefu sector of the South Luangwa National Park, visit the hot Springs/salt pan and continue game viewing. Arrive at Flat Dog camp early afternoon with opportunities for you to join on a night Safari tonite. You will be here for 3 nights stay on full board basis

DAY 13 and 14

Still at Flat Dogs Camp in South Luangwa National Park continuing with game viewing activities such as game viewing activities, walking safaris, night and night safaris. Also to be arranged will be excursions to Kawaza cultural village and tribal textiles to learn more about The Zambian way of life. Overnight on full board at Flat Dogs Camp.

DAY 15

Breakfast followed by a road transfer to Mfuwe airport in time for your flight from here to Lusaka, where you will arrive in time for your afternoon flight from Lusaka to Royal Airfield in the Lower Zambezi . You are met on arrival and transferred to Kasaka River Lodge for 3 nights stay on full board basis and game viewing activities

DAY 16 AND 17

Continue with activities from here such as Wilddog search/viewing, boating canoeing, fishing and game walks. Accommodation on full board basis

DAY 18

Boat transfer from the Lodge to Gwabi lodge, where you will be met by your driver transferred by road to Livingstone driving through Mazabuka and Choma, with a stop-over at Choma to see the museum in Choma. Stay at Taita Falcon Lodge for 2 nights on full board basis

DAY 19

Still in Livingstone with the following excursions to the Victoria falls, Livingstone Museum, Livingstone Railway Museum and Victoria Falls Field Museum

DAY 20

After breakfast you are transferred to Sindabezi for one night stay on all inclusive basis


Day 21

Road transfer back to Lusaka and transfer to Chaminuka Game Reserve for your 2 night stay, with possible excursion into down town Lusaka and visit the Lusaka museum

DAY 22

Still at Chaminuka continuing with activities in and around Lusaka or just stay and relax at Chaminuka

DAY 23

Transfer to Lusaka International Airport in time for flight back home.
