| Bari | Airplane fares to Bari from the USA in September. Posted: Mon October 22, 2007 08:12 PM UTC
I am making (mental) long range plans to visit Bari next September and will be traveling from the USA (Knoxville, TN). How are the plane fares during this time from the USA?

It might be less expensive to fly into Rome and take the train to Bari. We're staying near there next spring and we're flying into Nice, France and driving down, enjoying Italy as we go. (another option you could explore)
Check your flights to several cities in Italy and then check train fares from there to Bari. You can use whatever airline you prefer. The Italian train site is http://www.trenitalia.com/en/index.html Good luck.

september is certainly 'cheaper' than june/july/august...but i guess that's all relative. italy airfares are usually not as cheap as say germany or even france. basically, the usa-germany flights that i would get for $500 would be about $650 or so to italy around the same time. i'm guessing from knoxville, it'll be a little higher given that's not exactly a big international transit hub. very roughly speaking, i'd say budget about $750. and that's to milan/rome. from rome, it should be no more than $25 on the cheap train...if you want the luxury/high speed ES trains, it'll cost a bit more. italian train website: http://www.ferroviedellostato.it/

I appreciate the feedback! And the idea of using a train from Rome or Milan sounds good. I added both links to my Favorites. In searching the train sites, they did not show prices when I did a test search. What would be an estimated cost per person from Rome to Bari for a regular train and a fast speed train? Also I could find nothing in the FAQS specifying luggage limitations. Does anyone know what the lugagge limitations are for carry on and stow-away per person?

as far as fares go, click on that little shopping cart icon once you get to the page with the choices...from there, pull down the tab for 'standard' fare. roma to bari shouldn't be more than 60 EUR on the fast ES trains...probably a third of that on the cheapo R (for regionale) trains
as far train luggage usually goes, i think it's as much as you can carry! the bigger problem will be the airline will often limit you to 50lbs combined regardless of how may bags you have....i think...i've never had more than a tiny bag on my back.
