Crete Island How to get from Iraklion Cruise Port to Knossos by Bus
Posted: Mon October 22, 2007 07:28 PM UTC
Where do we catch the bus from the Cruise Port to Knossos? What is the bus number? How long does the bus ride take? How much is the bus ticket?
Since we are only there for a day, what are the other must-see attractions we should not miss.
Thanks for your help

I don't know what you mean by "cruise port." I think the cruise ships come right in next to the Ferry Quay, not way off as in Mykonos.

The Bus station is right next to the quay that leads out to the ferries. You don't need to know the bus number... just go to the window and say "Knossos ticket -- return." It is probably just a couple of Euros.

After Seeing Knossos, you ought to check out the treasures of Knossos and other ancient sites in a special exhibition from the Iraklion Museum. Here's the info, from a Greece expert:
"While the main Heraklion Archaeological Museum on the island of Crete is being reconstructed, a small exhibit of about 450 choice finds has opened up in on Hatzidakis Street directly behind the skeleton of the main museum.

"If you want to catch the highlights of Minoan art it's worth a visit - locals say that the exhibit, while small, is better curated and better lit than the displays in the old museum, which was left relatively unchanged for the past few decades until a partial roof collapse made the need for a new museum terribly obvious. But be ready for lines and delays as the small size of the museum exhibit limits the number of visitors it can hold at any one time, and cruise-ship visitors can eat up many of those slots."

--- the latter sentence makes me think that your cruise ship may be taking up some of the "slots" so u might just ask the cruise director what time he/she is taking the group to the museum, and then u try to go earlier or later.
