Garmisch-Partenkirchen Travel Forum

My wife and I will at last be able to return to Garmisch this winter. We look forward to our trip, but have decided not to waste money on a rental car again this time; there is so much to do locally on foot! Our return flight will leave on Sunday, January 6th in the morning; can anyone tell me what the train schedule is like on weekends at that time of year? We may need to leave Saturday night and sleep at the airport, it seems.

right now the train-scedule isnt available yet - since it goes into the new timetable starting from dec. 6th.
however it depends on the time your flight starts, wheather you have to sleep at the airport.
there are cheap hotels available in munich look at hrs.de

Thank you, devakavita. I noticed that the DB website would not accept the dates I entered during a schedule query, and I assumed the schedule must change in December. I have heard that there are actually showers in one of the Munich airport terminals, so we may just leave earlier and sleep there, or even check into renting a car one-way from GaP to the Munich airport.

I don,t think there are trains before 6a.m. and it takes 2 hours so if you need to be at the airport before 8a.m. I would definitely consider a Hotel near the airport. You would be well rested before your long flight and just get a taxi or shuttle bus the morning of departure. you could catch a train the evening before to Munich using a Bavaria card for 2 which is I think euro 27 for 2 people from Garmisch and s-bahn is covered as well.
Just see if someone living locally can give an idea of Hotels in the area, I have a feeling Freising is in the general direction and has shuttle buses to the airport.

Just try it for a recent Sunday. I would only expect minor changes with the timetable on this route. Early November the new timetable should also go online.

We regularly travel to Garmisch in the winter and although the timetable isn't out the first train is about 7am. It takes 1 hour 15/20 to Munich and then 45 minutes to the airport with no wait for the change at Pasing or the Hauptbahnhof. With check-in times to add on any flight before 10.00/10.30 is not really achievable so a night in Munich is the best. Spend your last day in Garmisch and get an evening train.

if you go into google and type in hotels+near+munich+airport the first website which appears has a good range of Hotels and in the left hand column it states which Hotels have a shuttle to the sirport.
