Darwin Weather in Nov/Dec and transportation to city
Posted: Mon October 22, 2007 09:45 AM UTC
Dear VTs.
I heard that it will be rainy season in nov/dec in the northern territory. Is it true? Is this a good time for travelling?
I would also like to know whether there will be buses from airport to city at around 12-1 midnight, as tiger airways flight will reach darwin at that time.

HI! Rebekka:

Wrong time to be up north in Oz. It is the rainy season really up north and a slow ascend into baking season in the Red Centre.

There are airport shuttle buses but I don't think they have services so late into the night. You can catch a cab into the city or sleep it out in the airport and then catch the first shuttle into the city at dawn.

The tourorists are all but gone, the bush is coming alive, the frill-necked lizards are out in force, everything is on 'off season' specials, definitely not cyclonic weather.
Xuess, what a bold statement "A bad time to visit". I notice you have been here in June! Have you experienced this bad time to visit or are you just saying what you have read in the guide books. You get the same and worse in Singapore!
You should be fine getting a taxi with the 3 of you to town. About $30 for the 15min ride. Many, many flights get into Darwin at this time of night so the drivers are waiting. If you want one to be waiting for you when you get there there is an excellent service called Darwin Private Hire Cars. Basically a 5 star taxi with the same prices as a normal one with plastic seats but you have to book them ahead and pay the set price fare upfront when you get in. They normally have excellent service, open doors like real gentlemen, load your luggage and don't usually grunt so much as your normal taxi drivers.

HI! Booner:

Not just the guidebooks but from your fellow Aussies as well.

It's certainly wouldn't be the best time to be visiting.

Yes, agreed with hands and legs up - lots of rain here in SGP too. But I would still say there is a better time to visit SGP too. (grin)

I haven't said not to go to see Darwin. (The beaches are fantastic!) A place out of season can be fun (no tourists!)....so I meant no offence at all.

Xuess; sorry to be quite blunt in my comment, i too did not mean to offend. It's just hard to sit where i sit and read encouragement for even more tourorists to go to Darwin in the middle of peak season and be dissapointed because it was too touristy and crowded, everything was burnt and dry, didn't see many animals etc etc.
The 'Best Time' to come is in each persons human nature. It is when you like it the most! My personal 'best time' in Darwin is just about now when nature is at it's best. Each to their own i say, and following my motto: Don't follow the sheep!

It would be great to hear from you Rebekah on this forum to give your impression to all of being in Darwin at the 'wrong time' of the year.

Hi Somehow pressed the wrong button and half finished the reply. To Continue

Kakadu in Feb during wet season for 4 days, amazed by the expanse of flood water
in the wet season, 10 feet high and more for as far as i could see down at Yellow River, just amazing, caught 2 Barramundi fish, however there was not any bird life.

Good Luck,
Mike

Dear fellow Vts,

Sorry for the late reply. Thanks for all your feedback. I did go to Darwin in December 2007 in the end because the air ticket was cheap, only S$450 for return flight to Singapore.

But it was really hot & humid that I feel really tired & drain after going for various walk in Kakadu, & we just wanted to stay in the car after each walk. There was still not much rain in December & we just feel heat everywhere.

Anyway, if anyone wants to go darwin in future, I strongly discourage going in the summer. If you want to go Australia in the summer, I recommend going to the southern part like Melbourne & tasmania. ;)
