I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW ABOUT THE CATHOLIC MISSION. HOW CAN I CONTACT THEM TO LET THEM KNOW WHEN I WILL ARIVE. DO I HAVE TO MAKE RESERVATIONS. HOW FAR IS IT FROM THE AIRPORT. I'M A NURSE FROM CHICAGO. I'M INTERESTED IN DOING WORK IN AFRICA IN THE NEAR FUTURE. I'M NEW TO THE SITE. THEREFORE, I DONT HAVE AN AVAILABLE PICTURE OF MYSELF. THANK YOU FOR HELPING ME.

Perhaps you will find an address on the Link below that will guide you to the information you need. I noticed there is an Intercultural Office in Detroit which might be able to advise.

It is certainly necessary to make arrangements in advance - the arrival of unexpected Volunteers, who may have to be housed and fed, could cause Caring Agencies a headache! So I think your first step should be to learn as much as you can about Mali and as much as possible about the work of the Catholic Missions there. If you cannot get the information from any one listed below maybe you should speak with your Priest. It might be a good idea to do that anyway.

You really can't just turn up and expect them to make use of you; it might be possible, but it is far more courteous to make contact and plans in advance.

If you can be of use, I am sure the mission will tell you all you need to know about travelling from the airport/inoculations necessary/funding etc.

Logistic how to go/get there is not the most matter to know....
You'd better contact someone at link posted before, to be a nurse in Mali is not like in some other western country. You'll need to be prepared a while before you go, don't expect to give enough, it will be always more what you'll receive there.

FYI there are 2 catholic missions in Bamako, one in the centre and one in Badalabougou just the other side of the River Niger.

Both of these places would need you to contact them beforehand although you can always seep ther whilst arranging things but don't count on anything unless you contact before.

YOUR RESPONSE WAS INTERESTING. THANKS FOR GIVING IT. HOWEVER, IT APPEARS TO BE MORE THAN WHAT I AM EXPECTING. LET ME SAY THAT I ONLY WANT A ROOM WHILE I'M IN MALI. TO STAY AT THE MISSITHAT ON DOES IT REQUIRE MORE. MY IMPRESSION IS THAT IT IS SOMEWHAT OF A HOTEL. IF I AM WRONG PLEASE CORRECT ME. I AM NOT TRYING TO DO ANY WORK THEIR AT THIS TIME. They are not hotels as such but do take people in IF they have room, because seminaires etc. That is why it is important to contact them first.
