Verona christmas holiday in venice, padova and verona
Posted: Sat October 20, 2007 10:13 AM UTC
hello vters :)

We are spending our christmas holiday from the 23rd in venice then padova (one day maybe) and verona as our last stop.

May i know if one day is enough to see most of the tourist spots in verona or not? If we are planning to see also lake garda, should we opt for 2 day-stay? What is there to see during Christmas holiday (27th or 28th) there in verona? (Lake Garda and Roman Ruins still good to visit during winter?)

WE are hoping to have some enlightenment before we finalize our plan and start to book immediately.

Thank you very much :)

Yes, you can see the main things in Verona in one day. Also Padua could be visited in a day.

Venice is best seen in two days or more. There are lots of things and places to see there.

Yes, I think as previously mentioned...you can see ALL of Verona in one day. Be prepared for rainy weather though..it is possible in wintertime...I was in Rome a couple seasons ago and it rained off and on Christmas through new years, while the rest of northern Italy was covered in snow!
As for what you might see, expect to see the streets strung with lights and plenty of shoppers doing last minute shopping in the stores. Many people have this period off, so expect larger crowds at everything. Some piazza's and churches have decorated trees, which I found very beuatiful. There should be nothing to prevent you from seeing everything you would see during a warmer season, but remember to pack accordingly for possible inclement weather...wet or cold.

I will disagree and say Verona should be given 2 days and definately so if you also plan to see the lake! The city centre with the squares and Arena can be seen in a day but then you also have several very nice churches, the fortress, the Roman amphitheatre museum and so on (feel free to see my Verona page). I guess it all depends on how much history and archaeology you're into.

thanks for the tip, Giorgio :) I am still deciding though which to book: La Magnolia( good reviews, cheap and near the station) or R. Muropadri (good reviews, same price as La Magnolia but quite far from the station, but says it is near the centre, like 10min-walk). Is La Magnolia also near the centre?

Also, we changed our plan.We will go back via Treviso so we have to catch the train or bus in the afternoon of our last day(Sun) to Mestre and from Mestre, catch the one-time coach to Treviso airport. Do you know which site I could check the exact timetable of bus/ train we should take? I checked the train (trenitalia) and the sched is just not possible so maybe we will opt w the bus?

This one I think I should solicit from any Verona local like you.

Thank you so much.

Greetz from BE :)

Thank you.

I would not stay near the station in Verona. There is nothing else there and contrary to most Italian stations it feels very seedy and deserted at night, especially considering what a nice city Verona really is. It's like all weird people gather around the station there.

oh,ok. was not mentioned in the reviews though. we were considering it coz we'll be arriving in verona from padua quite late...but if going back from the centre to the hotel would be dangerous at night, then we better think of getting the other one then?

thanks for the tip again :)

Hi, I suggest you Muropadri. La Magnolia is in a bad position to come back in the night. La Magnolia is near downtown, about 10 minutes walking, the same for Muropadri.
To go to Mestre the train is the best solution, not expensive and fast, about 50 minutes from Verona.
From Mestre railway station to Treviso Airport you have two different coach timetables, one for Ryanair and one for Transavia
http://www.trevisoairport.it/page/tsf/servizi/trasporti/mezzipubblici/treni?m=4140211&language=en
or
http://www.trevisoairport.it/tsf/index.jsp?_requestid=540780

If you are unable to open the PDF file save it on the desktop and open directly from the desktop. Sometimes is the best solution to open a PDF file.

Don't miss to have your dinner in OSTERIA AL DUCA, v. Arche Scaligere, 2 - Verona tel. 045 594474 I think the best and cheaper restaurant in Verona. Don't miss to reserve a table.

If AL DUCA is full go to OSTERIA DA UGO.

Have a nice holiday in Verona
Giorgio
