Hi to all my Aussie friends which I've yet to meet.

Are diving charters more expensive around Christmas or would be it better to wait until January to dive?

Any suggestions of quality dive companies?

I will have to check, but I don't think the charter prices change much at all, all year about the same.
BUT, at this time of year you are going to be at the hands of the weather Gods.
From end of October it's what they call the start of the wet season.
This lasts until around end of March/April...
It doesn't mean it will rain everyday...or cyclons will appear monthly, it just means it can/could do this.
If this is the only time you can get here, I would do Christmas time, not January.

I would love to meet up with you when you are here, but I am flying back to Victoria on the 23rd December for three weeks.
Let me know when you are coming and we could meet up for a drink or two....maybe three:)

We just came back from a dive trip from Cairns. We went on the Reef Encounter which was a fantastic boat. Their website is www.reeftrip.com There are several dives during the day as well as a dive each night. The boat travels between three different reefs and the diving was fantastic. The boat was very comfortable and the dive masters were brilliant. They have a bar and a spa onboard and the cabins were very comfortable. Their rates don't change over Christmas. I hope that this helps.

Mission Beach just south of Cairns is a better spot to go out to the reef from and it is a much much more beautifull place to stay. Is the cloest area to the outer reef and seems slightly cheaper than in Cairns, where the boats tend to get slightly crowded.
The other alterantive to cairns is Port Douglas just a wee bit north, but the boats there also get crowded like Cairns.
