Hello!

I love Holbox! I visited this Island back on 2004 and I don't think it has changed much.

Holbox is a peaceful small island, the town will be likely one big street, a placita, a few hotels and casitas spread here and there.. and thatīs almost pretty much about it. So the best is relaxing and chill.

There are a few interesting things to do there, birdwatching (seasonal), snorkeling, walking on the beach, fishing and exploring the island itself!
You can hire a tour or a boat and go ahead and see the place entirely.

If I remember, you can walk and walk and walk in the water and the water will be very low.

Something extra is that you can try the pizza place they have next to the main placita, pizza was veeery good. Not the place I thought for pizza, but it was ok. There is also a place where they sell juices, try the chaya with apple.. that was heavenly! I recall another good place almost on the beach that a italian woman named Donatella owned, not sure if stills there, but it was pretty cool.

Relax and be careful with the Tabanos, those moscos live close to the beach and the river, they really bite and can be very annoying!

Enjoy your trip.

Gatopardo, after 3 years and a major hurricane, you shouldn't assume nothing has changed. It would be best if you stated instead that you can only speak to your experience of 3 years ago pre-Wilma.

Much has changed on Holbox. Many, many things had to be rebuilt. Some hotels and homes just remain in ruins or have been demolished and not rebuilt. Tourism has increased dramatically, and consequently there are new hotelitos and posadas all over town. The far west end of the island (beyond the river) is being sold off. Potential investors are being brought in almost daily by helicopter to view that land. The only thing that remains constant is the bug population.

Good to hear this so more know what's going on.

You have precious information that many people don't know, it could be very interesting and important if you could help others into sharing that information, have you considered into having that uploaded to virtualtourist.com?

I added I visited Holbox in 2004 on my post and my experience.

Anyway, I look forward for knowing more, I have good memories from that place and it could be really sad that many people experience a lack of services, or maybe relocated to somewhere considerable different. Holbox is a precious place, however, very exposed...
