Ban Khao Lak Group off to Thailand 2008 July
Posted: Thu October 18, 2007 02:33 AM UTC
Hi, I have travelled to Thailand lots of times Phuket, Chang Mai, Bangkok etc but never been to Khao lak or Koh Samui( the other choice ). We love patong beach and have stayed at Merlin, Duangjitt, Club Andaman but Patong is just too busy so our group is looking for somewhere like a littke Patong, Do people think Khao Lak or Lamai or Chaweng. Is there shopping at Khao lak ?

What would be a nice hotel like the above mentioned ones there.

Also it does appear that Khao lak and Samui is more expensive then Phuket?

We will be travelling with a group of 18 couples, we like to have evening drinks and relax by pool and go shopping.

Thanks

Gregg

Hey Greg, sounds like lots of fun. Khao Lak is generally a pretty low key place, kind of surprising considering it's proximity to Phuket, but the beaches are just as calm and relaxing as is Phuket, if not more so. They have some good hotels here but I stayed at Phukhaolak. Located away from the beach but in what I considered a "great" setting of coconut palms and well manicured lawns. Jim and her family do a great job of running the place, and have a really good dinner for their guests, great bungalows that we thought were new but were not, housekeeping does a great job cleaning! but probably not something for all of you that are going, even though Jim would probably have enough bungalows.
Not much shopping to speak of, t-shirts and small souvenirs, not like Phuket or at least not to that scale. Just another reason why we enjoyed it as much as we did. Very relaxing, maybe too much for some?!
Have a great trip
