| Thessaloniki | New Year Eve Posted: Wed October 17, 2007 09:37 PM UTC
I hope I'll spend 4-5 days in Thessaloniki for the New Year. Is there any organised celebration outside (streets, squares...)?
Thanks in andvance PrasnjaviGoes2Greece |

What day they do celebrate the New Year actually?
(Sorry for silly looking question but in some countries people celebrate NY twice, 13 days apart: "Novyj God po-novomu" and "Novyj God po-staromu"...) Just thougt, Greece could be a candidate for similar confusion, but maybe not.

Greeks are celebrating New Year according New Chalendar. So, 31st/01st January. Also, Russians, Serbs... are celebrating 31st/01st January by Old Chalendar, 13th/14th January by New one.

Thanks, that's precisely why I was asking, wasn't sure about Greeks and New Year.
Is it true that the schoolkids have the longest Winter holiday in Vojvodina - from begin of "X'mas/1" till "New Year/2" (that's more than 3 weeks!)? I read that somewhere.

Yes all city is decorated of course. The Municipality organize every year the welcome of the new one in the central square of the city the Aristoteles Sqr with music, happenings and lot of fun. Will be satisfied about it.
