Forum Question Posted By: Replies:
Tehran south Tehran safety
Posted: Tue October 16, 2007 02:40 PM UTC
My father and I shall be spending a few days in Tehran in few months, assuming our visas are approved. While we shall be staying and spending most of our time in what we are told is the more well to do northern area, we would like to spend a day visiting the, I believe, more traditional southern area of Tehran. I am wondering if attitudes towards westerners and attention we may receive are different to what we will experience in the north. Anything we should be wary of?

I can't give a specific reply about south Tehran, only Tehran in general. And, admittedly, I was in central Tehran. I can say, however, that I was greeted and treated with unfailing courtesy and friendliness by people. But beware of the traffic!!

Tehran is huge and diverse, you can see different climate, different people and different culture in it, and people are all friendly and nice everywhere! You might want to dress more conservative in the southern part. in one word it’s not dangerous anywhere!

Saftey should always be a concern when you are in unfamilliar land but Iran is very safe and welcoming country. Northern Tehran is where the Rich are living. The southern part is home for the average iranians. You are safe no matter where you stay.

Good luck and enjoy.
