Hi
When I visited in December 2004, the departure tax was $BBD 25. I had to pay in local currency at the time of checking in for my flight. However, according to the following website, the departure tax was increased (more than doubled) earlier this year: http://barbadostravel.squarespace.com/journal/2007 The following article seems to confirm this: http://www.barbadosadvocate.com/NewViewNewsleft.cfm?Record=29012 Enjoy your trip! Thanks for your reply.
I have looked at the websites that you mentioned. I have also been to Barbados on 2 other occasions and we paid on departure at the airport. My issue is that I have booked a package with a well known tour company and I am being told that I have to pay in advance for departure tax to them and that it forms part of the package as they then pay on our behalf direct and it makes the check in time quicker. This is working out to be £51 per person. Even with admin costs it seems well over the top with the current tax cost. I am wondering if they will charge this £51even if we pay at the airport on our return to the U.K. If there are any other travellers with help I would appreciate it. thanks Carol

Departure tax is no longer paid on Departure. It is included in the cost of your ticket. The rate here is BBD$60.00 so that should be the correct amount (approximately) when you do the conversion from what is seen on your ticket. if you are using a Charter company, it should also be listed in your ticket, not because of ease of check in but because thats the way the Barbados Airport Authority has it set up now. This has been going on now since basically January 2007.
