| Kailua | Kailua/Lanikai kayaking Posted: Tue September 9, 2003 08:37 PM UTC
Hi there,
I am travelling to Kailua in October and staying in a little rental near Lanikai beach. I was wondering if anyone had any experience with kayaking to the two islands in the distance there. They can be seen from Lanikai Beach and I have heard that one may kayak to them? Any tips or experiences with this? Thanks! TJ |

Yes! I have kayaked out to the northernmost of the two Mokoluas, the one with the small sandy beach. It's easy to do in an ocean kayak -- especially in the summer when the seas are really flat. I wouldn't recommend it in rough water, as the breakers around the reefs and the wrap-around waves can be daunting.
