Will be going to Positano this spring. Are there specific lookout points where you can get a nice picturesque view or is it that every corner/ street you turn into has a beautiful view? Are there lots of steps to go from one alley to another? What type of souvenirs can i find ? What's the weather like in May? Thank you for any advice.

Beautiful views are everywhere. As for steps, in the eastern half of the village there are only several stair set with no more than 7 or 8 steps. All the rest are sloped pedestrian only walkways. The western half of the village is much steeper.

I second that first post and wanted to add that some of our favorite views were actually when we rented a boat and did sightseeing from the water.
There are all kinds of souvenirs. Art, jewelry, ceramics, clothing, food, limoncello. We were there this past May and the weather was awesome. Mostly sunny, mid-eighties. Also if you really want views consider making the short drive from there to Ravello.

Ravello is indeed gorgeous, with great restaurant cumpa cosimo, as well as an exciting drive to get there. But for shopping for ceramics, both these towns are expensive.

Any suggestions for restaurants? What's the specialty pastry or food for this region? Thank you very much everyone.

We at at a trattoria named La Tagliata set high up above Positano that was outstanding, very reasonably priced, and had an awesome view. The restaurant will pick you up and drop you off at your hotel if need be. Be ready to eat.
I'm not sure about pastries but I was told that a sort of flattened spaghetti type of pasta I was served at a trattoria in Marina di Praiano was unique to the area. That was another great spot (Marina de Praiano) just up the road from Positano set in a beachside nook carved right into the cliffs that had several restaurant options as well if you are looking for something unique, quiet.

Great views from the outside terrace of Le Sirenuse. I also love the view from the church. I loved the pottery in Ravello. Also, the views in Ravello are amazing- especially Villa Cimbrone. Definately get lime chocolate at the little shop in Positano.

I agree with Nicolaitan, our Pensione was located near the path on the western side of Positano. It was a mostly narrow walk down many stairs to the sea, with beautiful views along the way. You will see beautiful views everywhere in Positano, but take a bus to Ravello or Praiano and you will be rewarded with stunning views of the sea and the rugged coastline.
