Hi, I plan a trip to Reykjavík in early Feb 08.
My flight arrives at 12.00 Midday on the Friday and My flight home is at 12.00 on the Sunday. I have found a hotel in the city center that I am happy with.
I want to vist the Blue lagoon for a half day at least and also do a golden circle tour taking in the other sights. The golden cirle tour is 10 hours so I would have to do this on the Saturday, so I guess my question is, is there a tour that will take me to the Blue Lagoon friday afternoon? What time is the Blue lagoon open until ?
Or rather than try to rush off to the Blue lagoon on Friday, would I be better to take a tour that goes to the Blue Lagoon and also takes in some waterfalls and gyisers on the Saturday ? Your suggestions and advice would be most welcome.

Rent a car at the airport and go to BL right away, it is open until 20.00. After that drive to Grindavik and Krísuvik to see the hot mud ponds. I can not imagine why the GC takes 10 hours, probably you will be forced to take some unbelievably expensive meals. Better to drive yourself as the roads are ok and it is about 150 km. Afterwards you could dine in the viking pub in Hafnafjordur. Avoid Icelandic tourist services as they are so overpriced

So you think to hire a car is the best way to see the natural attractions?
I was thinking about that as I can hire a car for 2 days for around 60 GBP which is a good price i think. Is it easy to find the other main points of interest with a tourist map or do you recomend a lonely planet guide or another book ?

Don´t waste time reading Lonelypl. Any roadmap of Iceland will do and a check of the few Icelandic tourist websites. Your main concern will be the weather. May happen you can´t see 2 metres in snowstorm but it is always amazing in the BL. Good luck!

Seriously? Is there a chance I could be driving in a "white out" snow storm ?
That sounds a bit dangerous to me!!

Just be ready for weather surprises as you can not plan it ahead. Definitely bring sunglasses! It is very bright here when the Sun gets a chance even in winter

great that sounds very exciting!! I hqve decided now with your help. I am gonna hire a small car and go to the BL from the airport. The head to the hotll to check in after that. On the saturday I am gonna take a trip in the car around a few of the sites, probably the golden circle route.The a bit of dinner in the city saturday evening. A quick look around the big church on sunday morning then off to the airport sunday at 10! thanks for yoru help. If you can think of any other suggestions then pleae let me know. :L )

There will not be much daylight before 09.30 in the mornings. The best places to look at RVK is the big church or the Perlan watertower cafe but I am not sure if they open before 10.00. All you need is 10 minutes max to enjoy the view
