Barbados Restaurants and Car Rental
Posted: Sun October 14, 2007 05:25 PM UTC
My husband and I will be heading down to Barbados in November for our anniversary. We are staying at the Hilton and were looking for both restaurant recommendations (heard Brown Sugar nearby is good) and whether we will need to rent a car to try out good places to eat in Hole Town, etc.

We spend our winter in Barbados and used to live there.
Brown Sugar used to be very good. I know that there are different owners now and we found the food was not up to standard on our last two visits.
A little further along the main road toward Hastings and Rockley is 39 Steps.
Excellent food and wine.
In the Rockley area there is a lovely restaurant with excellent food. You will need a reservation. The name of the restaurant is Champers.
If you want a good Italian dinner one evening a very popular spot is Mama Mia's
cheap and cheerful. The owners are from Italy and the food is authentic Italian and very good. They sometimes have Jazz nights. This is not far from the Hilton.
Holetown is a fair distance from the Hilton. You could rent a vehicle or take a taxi. They are not too expensive.
Hope this helps.

I see you are from the USA. If you are comfortable driving on the right, hiring a car is a great way to see the island. just head out into the country and get lost. When you have had enough look for a bus stop which says "To City" on the right hand side of the road and head in that direction. You will soon be back somewhere you recognize. As for heading for a restaurant in the evening use the public transport. It is frequent, efficient and cheap.

We just returned from a lovely (albeit short) trip to Barbados. We ended up deciding not to rent a car but to take taxis as we were not going to be there very long. We ended up eating at fabulous restaurants including The Restaurant at SouthSea, Pisces, Champers, Cafe Luna, and Brown Sugar.
