| Sarajevo | Sarajevo to Dubrovnik Posted: Sun October 14, 2007 03:11 PM UTC
I am interested in either taking the train or bus from Sarajevo to Dubrovnik or another place on the coast closest to Sarajevo so that I can catch a ferry to Italy. Probably just the closest town or city in Italy directly across the Adriatic Sea from here.I will figure out more when I get that far!! I have researched this online but it is very confusing and would like to here from someone who maybe has taken this route or one similar. If you might know some price estimates or contact info, please pass it on. Thank you!

by the way t has to be a bus from sarajevo - no train
it all seemed quite reasonably prized to me - but i was surprised it cost 8 kuna to put your suitcase on the bus the bus station is a short walk from the ferry terminal - I bought my ticket okay when i arrived

Just to complete the above responses, there are no trains in Croatia below Split and to get there from Sarajevo by train you have to go via Zagreb. So you have to go by bus. Bus services from Sarajevo to Split can be found on http://www.ak-split.hr/EN/vozni.red/index.html, for tomorrow (Monday) these are given as:
Dep. 06:00 Arr. 13:05 LIVNO BUS SPLIT-I LIVNOBUS LIVNO Dep. 10:00 Arr. 17:25 PROMET MAK. -CENTROTRANS SAR.-AP MOSTAR Dep. 14:30 Arr. 21:10 AUTOPODUZEĆE IMOTSKI d.d.IMOTSKI Dep. 21:00 Arr. 04:30 PROMET MAK. -CENTROTRANS SAR.-AP MOSTAR Ferries are shown on here http://www.cemar.it/dest/ferries_croatia.htm

By the way, there is a Ploce - Mostar - Sarajevo train service between Croatian coast and BiH. Ploce is relatively close to Dubrovnik, but last time I did check it out, the schedule was not optimal.
The railway itself is said to be very spectacular but unfortunately I do not have personal experience with it. There are strong rumors, from Dec. 9 2007 the railway connections will be strongly improved, esp. new Sarajevo-Budapest, Sarajevo-Zagreb and Sarajevo-Beograd trains. So far, these are rumors only, but very persistent. Hope, they will be true.
