We are going to Barbados (The Gap)in November and wanted to know whether to take US Dollars or Barbados Dollars. Which is best for the local bars and restaurants? When we went to Mexico we took US Dollars but then realised that peso would have been better,you'd give the shop keeper USD's but then you'd be given your change in peso, it all gets very confusing.

I took Barbadian Dollars when I visited a few years ago and would do so again if I returned. Alternatively, you can withdraw them from ATMs once you get there. Unless you're American (and from your homepage, I guess you're not) then I wouldn't recommend taking US Dollars. Enjoy your trip! Jonathan

yes, you are right. using US dollars in mexico or so place else is possible, but it would be confusing and theres no advantage in doing so that I am aware of.

We were in Barbados last year and used USD. The US and Barbados currency is tied at a fixed rate at just about 1 USD = 2 BBD so it really is easy to convert. You will also find most of the major locations list prices in USD, but pay attention as those huge prices could just be BBD and not USD.
