Faro Parking a car at Faro train station
Posted: Sat October 13, 2007 10:56 AM UTC
Hi,
We are planning to drive from Sevilla to Faro and then park our rental at the station and take the train to Lisboa for a couple of days. Does anyone know about the parking facilities at Faro's train station? How much would it cost?
Or is it not worth the trouble and would it be better to drive to lisboa?
We are kind of afraid ending up with high parking charges if we take the car to lisboa.

We drove from the algarve to Lisbon last year. We stayed one night. The hotel had parking for around $10 euro.
I would definately take the car to Lisbon.
There is a lot to see and the drive is very nice.
The toll highway is less than $20 euros or you can drive up the coast.
You'll be glad to have the car when you get there.
Make sure you tell the rental company you are taking the car to Portugal as there is special insurance required.

And if you do not take the highway and come by the relaxing and scenery cost... to take some good meals and see some great views???
Sagres (the cape) at Rest. "Meridiano", Zambujeira do Mar, Rest. "A Fateixa" (by the river), Porto Covo, Rest. "O Marquês" -the magnificent cliffs around deserve some stops.

A detour to Évora (Unesco heritage town), Rest "O Guião" and the Almendres Megalith stone circles (larger in Iberia peninsula) ???? or only a stop in Setubal to dolphin's watching cruise and try the fried cuttlefish -a must- in Restaurant "Café C" or "Xica Bia".

still on the mood to drive?
A nice day can be spent traveling by Palmela castle, stop at Azeitão to try the "tortas de Azeitão" (a sweet cake made with lot of eggs), then proceed to Sesimbra and stop at Restaurant "Tony" (just close to the fortress). Then go to Arrábida mountain (one of the best views from the above road) and "Figueirinha" and "Portinho da Arrábida" beach. You can end up eating ameijoas (clams) and grilled fish in either Rests. "Beira Mar" or "Galeão" on top of the water in Portinho da Arrábida.

Well .... I think you need the car before heading toward Lisbon.
Then let me know what kind of information you need in my town....
Enjoy

There is plenty of parking at the Faro train station, for free. Just park on the one of the side streets right near the station, and you can leave your car there for as long as you want. It's safe, and your car will not get broken into.

But if you are comfortable driving in European cities, I would take the car to Lisboa. In the downtown core, there are pleanty of underground public parking lots (relatively cheap, maybe 8-10 euros for the day). The public transportation in Lisboa is very good, so no real need for a car, but you may wish to go see Sintra and it's two castles. Very beautiful. Also, to get to the nightlife (the Docas) in Lisbon, it's easier with a car than subay or bus.

You can take the toll highway to Lisbon or the free road (IC1)that runs parallel to the highway. The free road will take about 30 minutes more to get up there. Also, I have gone between Seville and Faro many times with a rental and never heard of needing special insurance to go between Spain and Portugal.
