| Mozambique | Can we hire a car from the Vilanculos/Bazaruto area? Posted: Thu October 11, 2007 11:20 PM UTC
We want to fly into Bazaruto and hire a car from this area and to drive to the Kruger National Park and then on to Johannesburg. I can not find anywhere online that rents cars around Vilanculos/Bazaruto. Can anyone advise if it is possible to rent a car and also if we would be able to drop it off in South Africa? Does anyone know how wong it would take to drive to the SA border?
Thanks Fritz |

Hi Fritz,
You could try Vilanculos car rental: http://www.africastay.com/mozambique_vilanculos_car_rental.html. If hiring a normal 4 x 2 vehicle you will have to drive from Vilanculos down to Maputo and then into RSA at Komatipoort, which is the Rossano Garcia boarder post. This will give you access to the southern part of Kruger park. There are no border posts from Mozambique into Kruger other than at the top end of the park in the north, at Pafuri, which is the Giryondo border post. To enter through this gate a 4 x 4 is essential as you will have to drive across the Limpopo River. Crossable in dry season only, when the river is low. Driving time from Vilanculos to Maputo ± 9 hours and then ± 1.25 hrs to the border. The towns in Moz are very close together with a speed limit of 60 kph through them, which must be obeyed. There are also two sections of the road for ± 60km each which are badly potholed, this makes for slow going. Regards Terios
