Santa Monica Hotel in Santa Monica

Hi,
Posting this from Sweden. I haven't been to Santa Monica since I was a student. Those where the days. Now I'm returning with my wife and son for a week. Any nice hotels to recommend? I mean personal, with atmosphere - no stiff ones. I've heard about Channel Road B&B and a hotel called Ambrose. Good? Or are there some otehrs you can recommend. Thankful for opinion or advice. Just post an answer.

You can try Oceana; it's a short walk to the beach :

Thanks for the answer. I checked it up. It looks nice. Though it costs for a week well over 3.000 USD + tax + breakfast + parking. What about the Viceroy? The Georgian? Or the Channel Road from what I've heard is very casual yet comfortable. That is, from what I've heard. I really don't know. More opinions or advice?
Thanks!

I'm not sure about those hotels; The Ambrose was our second choice, but a bit far from the main areas as we had no transportation at the time. I suggest you look at tripadvisor; www.tripadvisor.com and see what others think of those hotels. The Oceana is a great hotel, with younger, congenial staff, plus a great atmosphere and an easy walking distance to shopping and restaurants.

A friend of mine is going to be staying at the Fairmont over Christmas, I don't know if you've considered staying there or not; she says the prices are lower than Oceana. I suspect the increase in prices was due to their recent renovations. We did love Oceana, and if you have your son with you, the kitchen suites may come in handy. Good luck in your search!

Just an option - you might check out VRBO.COM - Vacation Rentals By Owner and find a neat apartment. Hotel - Shutters is awesome or Guest Suites
