Guadalajara Christmas in Guadalajara or D.F.
Posted: Thu October 11, 2007 03:56 PM UTC
My fiance and I will be spending a week in Nuevo Vallarta before Christmas and then rent a car for 3-4 weeks. We would like to go to Guadalajara or D.F. for Christmas week and then travel around. We would really like to be somewhat spontaneous on this trip. Is it easy to find hotel rooms in the bigger cities during Christmas and how busy do the coastal towns get during January. Can we find places at the last minute? Would you recommend one city over the other for Christmas sights and sounds?
Thanks everyone!

Typically, the larger cities are very quiet at Christmas - as compared to the rest of the year. I doubt you'll have any difficulty at all finding hotel rooms in whichever price category you'll look for in Guadalajara at this time of year. Christmas is very much dominated by family celebrations, whether you're at the beach or in a city - so don't expect too much activity. Once Christmas Day finishes many people head to the beach for the week between Christmas and New Years, and for New Year's Day . . . and if you'll want to be at a beach then now is not too soon to make a reservation someplace.

Try any of the colonial cities for Christmas, there are performances and street festivals, its not crowded as many people head to the beaches...it does get cool at night - Guanajuato is incredibly beautiful, Queretaro is very nice at Xmas, or Morelia. Guadalajara and DF are fun but huge cities...Have fun! And for Jan. prices may be high but you still find space along the coast.
