All I can add to Anke's link is that I believe the proprietor is Florent Laval. When we visited in '04 we were given a tasting in the dining room of the house in Cumieres as well as a visit to the cellar where we were shown the disgorging process by Florent. I thought this was hospitality above and beyond the norm. I tried visiting again last year but arrived late in the day so did not want to knock on the door. Went back next day, May first, a holiday, & thought it wise not to intrude at the family home. Florent did mention in '04 he was building a cellar door facility down the road. I hope to find that next year & stock up with his wonderful product on day one of our holiday. regards p.

Great stuff Pedro, glad you replied to this posting!
Usually I am in France too, May 1st (and the days around it), but a little more south, the Yonne (Bourgogne). Similar hospitality was shown us in Chablis. About 15 years ago I bought some excellent wine from Gioulhardou, in the center of the village Chablis. A year or 2 ago, we returned. It was a Wednesday and that was the only day he was closed. Highly disappointed (I'd hoped to offer my son a first local wine-tasting), I sniffed around the building a bit and found Mr Gioulhardou scuttling about in the barn. He kindly opened his shop and gave us a good winetasting session. Hang on... I've never written a tip about this!

Hi Anke. Yes I've picked up on your penchant for visits to Cave de Bailley etc & envy your easy access to the area plus Marne Valley on the way!? We had a similar experience in Chablis. Stopped at the lookout overlooking the vineyards & was asked by a local if we had seen a bus during our travels. We pointed him in the right direction. He came back later and invited us for lunch at his winery.
Re: Laval Louis, I'm trying to remember his flag ship vintage ch. named after his grandfather...that would add a name to the family tree. regards, p.
