Agadir Day Excursions
Posted: Wed October 10, 2007 07:01 PM UTC
Hi

We're spending 5 days at Agadir mid December. We'd like to do some day excursions, ideally on coach with hotel pick up and drop off. If not possible may be hire a petite taxi - any ideas as to venues and costs please

All replies gratefully welcomed.

For a day trip, go to Essaouira and on the other hand to Taroudant, but its better to rent a car than to go with some pseudo-organized trip...Those 2 towns are wonderful and are not destryed by tourism....

If you're asking for a coach pick up - I doubt you feel up for driving. Yet in Morocco anything can be arranged as a pick up from hotel.
Head for Essaouira and you'll start scratching at the surface of real Morocco. You'll see that Agadir is not what Morocco is about.

You may actually get swamped in trips if only there for 5 days.
There are plenty of things to see and do in and around Agadir but the better touristy ones are:
the Kasbah to view all of Agadir and the Atlantic;
the port to see the boats come in with their catch and see boat building in progress and have very inexpensive lunch for 30Dh (less than €3);
no visit to Agadir is complete without going to Souk el Had (closed Monday), the largest in N Africa at 4 sq Km.
You could visit Inezgane just on the outskirts which is not a stop off point for tourists as they only drive through enroute on their day trips. Here you need to speak French at least as English is not spoken. You can buy things far cheaper here as this is where goods are produced for sale to the tourists in Agadir.
There is La Medina d'Agadir on the outskirts (pickup daily from most hotels) and is a cultural village intended to be a faithful reconstruction of the original Medina and comprises various handicrafts including jewelry, pottery and leathercrafts coupled with old style architecture, an ampitheatre, souk, cafe, riad and other items of cultural interest.
Further out is Taroudant, Essaouirra, Immouzzer, Massa by Landrover, Tafraout and Tiznit, Marrakech 1 day trip which everyone should do (also available as 2 day trip). Some of these have already been mentioned but tourists are inevitably taken to pre-determined points such as helbalists and carpet makers in addition to the sightseeing. These, I find, waste valuable time as the guides are out to get there commission from the sellers. Pickup is usually arranged at your hotel.
Don't forget to go on the beach for an ice cream and see the spectacular sunset.

Thanks for all the info. Will definitely give it a whirl. Looking forward to the sunsets, something I'd forgotten about
