ciao...let me say that thsi season is a bit late to visit Puglia...you can not join the beaches and the wonderful sea. aniway puglia is a big region so i think you will need a car to visit it around (it's wondeful and full of intresting places...is wasting time to spend all the holidays in the same place). from napoli it's about 2 hours by car in highway (4 to go to otranto)...from sicily is a bit hard to know, u need to take a ferry and all...so maybe u'll need 6-8 hours (maybe less, but i don't know). I really don't suggest you planes, but if u prefere u can take a Bari-Palermo. with trains is easy too...and cheep, but u have to be veeeeery patient. so what i suggest you is to take it very easy, don't plane too much, cause you never know. If you decide to take the car...remember that is south Italy and the have a wild driving mood. so you must be very quiet, don't car if other cars run too fast or in a very dangerous way...and don't care if they insult you.
about your resort i have no idea, aniway puglia is a touristic region, full of hotels and resorts...and now the season is over...so you will find the most of them totally desert. Please contact me if you need other infos.

This is the web site for the resort you are staying. They have links to "Itineraries" and "Traditions" that will give you places to visit with explanations. I somehow got the impression you are making this trip next spring. If so, the weather should be terrific. We are spending one week at the same resort in late May-early June. When will you be there? You might be interested in Otranto. One web site is http://www.otranto.biz/otranto/otranto-the-city.html To get distances, maps, driving directions, etc. go to http://www.viamichelin.com/ Good luck.

Hi,
I don`t know about the resort but Alimni is a lake region and natural reserve near Otranto. It is said to be nice, but we didn`t make it there. It might be a bit too cold for swimming now, but Puglia will be even less crowded in off season. Otranto is nearby and worthwhile visiting - but you surely will need a car. The location is central enough to do daytrips to Lecce, Alberobello, Martina Franca etc. I would furthermore recommend flying to Bari or Brindisi airport. Have a look at my Puglia pages for more info, if you like. Safe travels - Michael

I did not get to Otranto, and instead stationed myself in Bari.
Take note there are two train services in Puglia area - the national train Trenitalia and the private FSE - and they serve different lines. I was sort of disappointed with the train link - like i wanted to travel to Alberobello to Ostuni was not possible but to get to Bari and connect - what a waste of time. the puglia region is really lovely - lots of history and lots of nice food too. You can get to Bari from Naples - i think it is about 2-3 hours train ride - stopping to change train in Caserta. There are not many train timetables - so ideally you book your seat in advance. I did enjoy taking the train as i got to see a little of the country as well but once in PUglia there was lots to see. I managed to cover Trani in the north bit to see the castle Monte and also the churches there, Bari also the churches and also the castle, Alberobello for the trulli houses, Ostuni for the white washed buildings, and some smaller towns in between. remember to eat the delicious orrechiette pasta - ear shaped - it is regional... and the bread is lovely there - dried crunchy lopes ones with aniseed inside.
