| Mérida | Airport / Custom / Immigration Posted: Wed October 10, 2007 05:03 AM UTC
My girlfriend and I are flying in from New York to Merida via Mexico City. We will be arriving Mexico City at 10 o'clock at night on December 22nd and our flight to Merida is at 11 o'clock on the following morning. We are thinking of booking a hotel room in or around the airport for the night to catch some sleep and unwind but I just would like to make sure that we could get our luggages checked out and go through customs and immigration in Mexico City Airport, not at Merida Airport, which is our final destination? Should we pick the Hilton which is just inside the airport just in case we won't be able to get out of the Mexico City Airport?
Thank you for your time =) Heidi |

You shall clear Immigration and Custom in Mexico City and after that you will be free to go where you like and with your luggage. With your flight schedule, I guess your best choice it is to stay in one of the hotels at the airport.

Luggage is sometimes sent on to the final destination in Mexico, where you clear Customs. You should be posing this question to your airline - because it's the best source of information available.

The way things do and/or don't work in Mexico, I would pack my pyjamas and a little tube of toothpaste in my carry-on bag so you would survive either way.

Thank you for the advice. I'll be taking Aeromexico from New York to Mexico City and Mexicana from Mexico City to Merida. I think I'm just gonna have a pj in my carry-on =)
