Posted: Tue October 9, 2007 07:57 PM UTC
Sometime after August 18th, we lost our camera in Positano and will pay a reward of 50 Euro for the return of the camera card! We bought a new camera..so this does not matter to us...just the pictures.

I have been able to retreive a few pix from my hard drive and will try to post some...but one of the picutres on the card can be seen on our homepage ID pic.!! thanks!

Hi,

Sorry to hear about the loss of your camera. Before you leave home again, create a page on your PC, in large letters, with your contact details (or a relative, etc,) and take a picture of your monitor screen! Use this on each of your camera cards, so if you lose the camera, or even if it's stolen, chances are someone will view the card, and post it home to you. If stolen, the thief won't ask for a reward, LOL.

Hope this might help a little.

Regards.

That is a wonderful, wonderful idea! I will certainly do that and spread the word.

In the meantime, I am hoping for the best...I am so-o- upset for having lost the pix.

Thanks again for the great tip!

Hi again,

I thought of the idea when I first got my digi camera, and went to Turkey, 6 years ago. After I download my pix, I delete them all from the card, except for the address one, haha.

You never know, someone may read your posting and return your camera to you.

Regards from England.

I hope so...now that I have had the courage to sit down and deal with this, I am very upset...can cry any minute ...I am searching on some photo websites and I see that people are very caring and have been posting photos to try and locate the owner.

Hi again,

Here is a posting from a VT member who found a camera on a bus. Place and date are not correct, but you never know. And, it shows there are great people around too:

It's not us.... ):

And yes, there are great people around and that's why I have hope..I ALWAYS return items when I find them and that's why I think I will somehow get the pix back.

I am embarassed to say, but when we arrived by car in Positano, we were so exhausted from the flight and the drive...I left my Itliian cellphone AND my Ipod in the car. We had prearranged Hertz to pick up our car once we arrived and I had accidentally left those items behind.

In all fairness, the Ipod fell under the driver's seat due to the winding roads on the Amalfi coast (along
with the sudden stops) so I did not think to look there!

I called my cell. Gianluca the concierge from Hotel Caterina (Amalfi) answered. The car renter after me was a guest at that hotel and gave it to Gianluca.

The driver left for Pisa...Gianluca tracked him down , as he had his ceel number and they looked under the seat ...there it was.

I travel to Rome frequently, and I got the Ipod back last month!!

This is why I have hope!

IF you did not already do so, you should also check with the other excellent tourist information sharing site, TripAdvisor.com

There was recently some chatter on the Italy forums about somebody who found a camera and was trying to locate the owner. You might look into it there as well.

So sorry for your loss and I hope you have success in locating it.
