My family were planning to go from Munnar to Koddaikanal and I would like to know the time it takes by car for such a trip.

I had ben to kodaikaal from munnar.There are 3 routes from munnar.

The smallest route: Even though there is only 45 kms on this route, the roads are not at all good. Its a forest route. And most of the time it is closed,or under construction/ repair. We will have to first take the permission of forest dept etc for that. So i think you better avoid the route.Its mainy used for trekking fom munnar to kodai.

The Good Route: This is the best route for u I think.

1. Start from Munnar, Kerala and head North East on NH 49 | Distance: 74.8 Km
Cross the following on your way:

Bodinayakanur at 60.3 Km
B. Meenakshipuram at 64.3 Km
Boothipuram at 68.4 Km
Palani Chettipatti at 69.1 Km
Theni Allinagaram at 73.8 Km
Total : 74.8 Km

2. Continue on NH 45 | Distance: 32.6 Km
Cross the following on your way:

Thenkarai at 7.0 Km
Thamaraikulam at 13.3 Km
Periyakulam at 14.7 Km
Devadanapatti at 25.8 Km
Ganguvarpatti at 29.4 Km
Total : 107.5 Km

3. Turn left on SH 18 | Distance: 35.7 Km
Cross the following on your way:

Pannaikadu at 15.0 Km
Total : 143.2 Km

4. End at Kodaikanal Total : 143.2 Km


The Biggest Route: This will the longest route. The route is via kumali. Donnot know much about this route.

Better the second one. I had gone on this route in the month of september 2007,The route ws really great.For our trip i got the route info from the site
http://mapmyindia.com/. We took about 6 hrs to kodai on the second route.
