| San Diego | Sky Scrapers in San Diego Posted: Mon October 8, 2007 08:42 PM UTC
I was in San Diego a few years ago and went on a tour. They took us to town and showed us the new buildings. These building were in a district that to build there had to be a theme such as a ship coming in or a sailboat something to go along with San Diego. Anyone know anything about this and can you tell me where some info and pictures are?
Thanks Madonna |

Hi Madonna,
I live in San Diego and the answer to the question you are asking is not one I can think of right off hand. I mean that the tour you speak of is not one I've heard of specifically. There is a downtown tour of the architecture of the city, it originates at the Davis House,(in the Gaslamp Quarter, Historical Foundation in the William Heath Davis House, 410 Island Avenue, 619-233-4692.) This tour features the historical buildings of the Gaslamp Quarter. The buildings along the harbor may be included, but I'm not familiar with that aspect. However, when the SD Convention Center was built, the general consensus was that the roof of the building looked like sails of a ship. Also, shape of the Marriot's twin towers were publicized as looking like sail boats. There are other aspects of the harbor area that follow the theme you have mentioned. The Old Town Trolley Tours has a stop at the habor and at Seaport Village, and on that tour, they might mention this aspect of the architecture too. As to a tour which specifically addresses this aspect of the architecture, I am not aware. You might check with the American Institute of Architects in San Diego for information about this.
