| Kuwait | Traveling to Kuwait - Is it safe??? Posted: Mon October 8, 2007 04:47 PM UTC
Hello Everyone : )
I am an American citizen who will be visiting Kuwait next week for 8 days..and I have a few questions which I'm hoping someone can respond to asap!! 1. I only have my passport..can I get a visitors/tourist visa issued at the Kuwait Airport? I'm a little worried becuase I don't have one. What documents are needed if I get one issued at the Kuwait Airport? 2. My mother is freaking out about the fact of my visiting Kuwait..with everything she hears in the news ..of course she is very worried about her daughter. I feel I'll be fine but for her peace of mind, is it safe for me to travel to Kuwait? I would appreciate any answers I can get...thank you so much! |

#1. Apparently you just need your passport and pay for your visa at the port of entry - see http://travel.state.gov/travel/cis_pa_tw/cis/cis_944.html
#2. I have no idea, but I hope you are going on business and that someone is going to meet you... BIll

1. Yes, a visa is issued at the airport for Americans. The process takes anywhere from 5 minutes to an hour - depending on how many people are in line in front of you. No documents other than your passport are needed. You need to be able to tell them the name of the hotel you are staying at.
2. Kuwait is a very safe country, unless you want to use it as a base to wander across the border with Iraq (which obviously isn't safe). 3. With 8 days on your hand, I sure hope you're going there for business - because if you're there only for tourism you'll start getting rather bored after about 3 days.

Hi..Welcome to Kuwait..
1. Check www.kuwait-airport.com.kw and search the visa/visa regulations. The American passport holders will get visa on arrival in Kuwait. For the requirements check the websites I and an other VTer gave you. The visa could be get on the second floor (departure area), ask help from the airport workers (cleaners and porters cannt speak English well). 2. The single women who travel alone here will be generally safe. Next week will be their Eid festival, just get some companions with you to go out, there will be many people on the street. There may be some harrassments to women(this ones use to happen in any other countries too :-)..), just ignore it and dont try to smile on the street here. The emergency number is 777. Treathening them by saying that you will call that number always works when they try to do some more. Just know your surroundings and you will be ok. You may read some of my danger and warning tips.
