| Fussen | Garmisch to Fussen Posted: Sun October 7, 2007 05:54 PM UTC
Hello,
Are there buses/trains from garmisch to fussen thro the day?. We might finish with garmish/zugspite by end of day (around 6-7pm) and we want to get to fussen/schwangau the same night so that we can see the castles from early next day. Any pointers appreciated!!!! thanks!! |

As your next destination is Innsbruck Füssen - Garmisch would be more logical. As the route from Füssen to Innsbruck is via Garmisch.
There are various bus and/or train combinations. But lot's of mountains on the direct route. Thus either slow or a detour - which means even more time consuming. DB timetable http://reiseauskunft.bahn.de/bin/query.exe/en From: Fuessen From: Schwangau To: Garmisch-Partenkirchen a) Buses. Most direct route but they serve every single milk can on the route. b) Bus to Vils or Reutte in Austria, from the the Ausserfernbahn railroad to Garmisch-Partenkirchen c) Solely by trains - via Munich. All routes are covered by the Bavaria Ticket which covers also the Ausserfernbahn. This is also the most scenic route. There is also the option to reserve tickets for Neuschwanstein Castle for a specific time. https://www.lisl.de/765.0.html Keep in mind that you have to collect the tickets latest 1 hour before the tour starts.

Thanks very much man!!!. You seem to be a walking encyclopedia for europe travel!.
Also, the euro global or select passes - can they be used for travel within a country as well?. Can i use them to travel from rome - florence etc?

Yes. Standard ticket EuroStar Italia for this route is EUR 33,00. These trains need however a supplement if used with a rail pass. ICplus train would be EUR 26,50. These trains are fully covered. Thus to use a rail pass makes only sense if a pass day is less than EUR 26,50 (~ USD 37,50).

I am glad i found you.
Our itinerary is like this - Ams - munich (night journey) - fussen (we decided we will probably rent a car in fussen , see reutte in tirol, garmisch, zugspitze, mittenvald) and then depart to innsbruck from fussen From innsbruck to venice, then venice - rome - florence - nice. (we had thought florence - genova, but realised we could as well go to nice) Nice - paris (preferably night journey), then finally to london. does the itinerary look ok?. We plan to do it starting oct 20, we really have very very less time to plan, and we are busy during the week.. Only god and samaritans like you can help!!!. So instead of any kind of eurail passes, we are planning to take point to point for most of them. Does this make sense?. thanks very very much!!!!.

car rentals in Füssen (bottom of page) http://www.tourismus-fuessen.de/21.0.html I would recommend to return the car in Garmisch as there are direct trains from Garmisch to Innsbruck. This will be possible with www.europcar.com EuroMobil is mainly to provide Volkswagen/Audi garages with rental cars (e.g. during the repair of a car). To my knowledge you have to return the car at the place you rented it.

On the homepage of Füssen they list one company as EuropCar partner. But indeed no Füssen on the EuropCar homepage. You may consider to rent in Augsburg or Munich. There all big rental companies have branches. You could try following resellers to find good deals
www.gemut.com www.autoeurope.com online booking of Neuschwanstein tickets http://www.hohenschwangau.de/ticketcenter0.0.html Does this site appear for you in English (as it does for me). Or use http://www.hohenschwangau.de and there the button for the English pages.

Thanks much!.
I shall check it out..not sure if picking up a car in munich will work out unless we can drop it at garmisch, for a low acceptable price. (I heard it might be > 200$...not sure though). Also, a rough idea about how much it might cost from innsbruck - venice and then from florence - nice ?. I am unable to find prices for them in the local railway sites since they cross borders. thanks again!
