New Orleans Staying near the French Quarters
Posted: Mon September 8, 2003 09:17 PM UTC
How safe is it to book a hotel room at one of the hotels on Rampart St? I am concerned about my small group (4) walking back late at night, after having had a few drinks a piece. I have heard all kinds of scarey stuff about Rampart St. I know to use good judgement when walking around at night, but I don't want to be in a crime area if I can avoid it.

RAMPART ST IS ON THE WEST BORDER OF THE FRENCH QUARTER AND A FAIR WALK FROM ALOT OF THE POPULAR PLACES IN TH F.Q. I WOULD SUGGEST CHARTRES ST , ROYAL ST OR DECATUR ST. WE ALWAYS STAY AT THE PROVINCIAL HOTEL ON CHARTRES ST. GREAT LOCATION . HAVE A GREAT TIME. BE SURE AND GO TO COMMANDERS PALACE FOR LUNCH. BEST DEAL IN TOWN. DID HAVE 50 CENT MARTINI'S THE LAST THREE TIMES WE WERE THERE !!!!!! BUT ONLY AT LUNCH

What is the name of the hotel?

We stayed at French Quarter Suites. Got a fantastic upgrade, the room could not have been any better. Wonderful security and a locked, semi-private courtyard. However, we always caught a cab back to the room at night, had it drop us off right in front of our gate, and scurried inside quickly. Kind of scary. I agree, try staying in the interior of the Quarter if you can, or plan on using a cab at night.

Have a blast!

We stayed at the Queen and Crescent on our trip last spring and had a delightful stay. It is only about a 2-3 block walk to the French Quarter and in a better part of town.
