Quezon City HELP!
Posted: Sat October 6, 2007 08:41 AM UTC
Hi. It's my first time to commute to Manila. I've always traveled with my family or a driver everytime I go there. Anyway, I will be traveling alone for my Oct. 19 interview at the US embassy. Do you know of any cheap places where I can stay which is within walking distance to the US embassy? Thanks a lot!

Stay in the Ermita area so you can walk to the embassy!

First it depends on what you think "cheap" means! How much per night do you want to spend? Air conditioning or not?

Mabini Pension, 1137 A. Mabini Street, has some cheap fan only rooms with shared toilets. Try not to get a room on the Mabini Street side - lots of lighted flashing signs and noisy Jeepeneys - all night long!

Stone House B&B, 1315 A. Mabini Street, they also have fan only, shared toilet rooms. Stone House is a better choice (my opinion) than Mabini Pension. They are not too far from each other.

There are other hotels in this area that are cheap - but you may get what you pay for! The more you pay the more you get (like TV, A/C, safety box, hot water, etc.)

Good luck.

the aircon rooms in the stone house are ok and cost less than a thousand pesos per night and the place is relatively new. Just a few block away is Robinson's ermita, so its very convenient. The US embassy is more than a kilometer away from the place.

By the way, there are two Stone House B&B's. One of them is in Quezon. I used the one in Ermita on Mabini. I think it would take around 15 minutes, give or take a few, to reach the U.S. Embassy by walking. I think the cheapest room was around 500 piso. (Pinoys sometimes get a break on prices that Canos don't!)

Good luck.
