| Stuttgart | Stuttgart low cost accomodations/family history Posted: Fri October 5, 2007 07:49 PM UTC
Hello,
We will be traveling in Germany during the last week of July 2008. We are a family of 4 (children 11 & 13) and would like to find a nice place to stay around Stuttgart that doesn't cost too much. We are also interested in trying to research some family history. My wife's family name is Bracher and the family oral history is that her ancestors were officials in Stuttgart in the early to middle 1800's. John |

On the family history side, you can look at the follwing sites on the web: http://www.rootsweb.com/~eurgaesr/index.html, and also: http://www.genealogy.net/index_en.html. There are many, many more sites available. Although you can get the home page of many sites in English, the records will still be in German. They have a translating service on the web called "Babylon6", which you can download, that may help somewhat. The have a short free trial, but then it becomes a service you pay for. If I get back to researching my genealogy this winter, I may put it back on my computer. I'm finding that "oral" family histories can be a bit frustrating. Even if the info is correct, there usually are a lot of gaps that complicate things. Good luck on your search and enjoy your trip. Gary

Thanks for this tip. We have made arrangements to stay in the hostel for 3 days at considerable savings. It also looks like it will be a great experience for our kids. The hostel looks beautiful and the staff were very helpful as we communicated through emails.
Thanks again, John
