Gold Coast Help

Hi there,

Im an Australian citizen coming back to the gold coast in a few weeks, i will be bringing my friend who is a british passport holder.

Now can some one please clarify if he gets a free 60 day visa when he arrives or does he have to pay for a visa at the Brisbane Airport?

Also if he finds a job on the Gold Coast what would he have to do, can he go to the british consulate in Brisbane and apply by that or will he have to leave the country then come back in on a working visa, if so how much?

If any one can give me any information that would be great!!!!

Thanks.....Hayley

But he gets a free 60 day visa anyway as hes part of the commonwealth, is that right?
I think it says on the immigration website that people from the UK get up to 3 months free but might have to pay $20.00 (Aussie).

As long as its free to get in then thats fine.

I can work the working visa out once i get there in Australia, but i just want to know about the entry for a visit for british passport holders....

yeah he normally can get an electronic visa from the travel agency where you buy the ticket, they do it online and thats it, it cost around 15/20dollars and can be issued in 20mins or so 90days....when he will arrive at the airport in australia they will have him on file,. for the working bit, its more complicated.if your friend is young enough he/she can probably try to get a working-holiday visa (check it out!!!!)if not, he will have to get out of the country and back if he gets a job.

I am fairly certain you need to apply for a work permit before your friend comes here as 1 of the questions you will be asked at immigration is "do you intend working?" and of course he won,t be allowed to without the permit. This is also on the government webiste.
there is a forum with exactly this type of question on stonedcrow, ask on there. Unfortunately, although the site is intended for tourists visiting Aus., they are inundated with ads for viagra, just ignore all that and go into noticeboard, then general and you can post your question. Lots of UK people ask things on here and will give you the name of the wesite as I think you can actually do a lot of the application on your computer.

If you look through this site you will find a good amount of info
http://www.immi.gov.au/

He applies for a working visa before he comes, he has to get this to work legally in Australia. If he is Under 28 or some age like that he can apply. If he applies for a work Visa
he will also need to prove that he can pay his way for the amount of time he stays here without work.He will need money in the bank!

As Craic mentioned, it would be a very good idea for him to visit the Aus Govt
consulate in UK and get the info needed. There are rules and regulations:)

to apply for a working visa from an australian embassy, he or she needs a job first(thats why people need to get out of the country when they find one), and since he intends to look for one when he gets there, its almost impossible for him/ to be issued a working without a job/offer and adequate paperwork.
