Forum Question Posted By: Replies:
Negombo beaches near negombo and tulip of ceylon resort
Posted: Thu October 4, 2007 02:40 PM UTC
I am staying in Negombo for 2 weeks from 29th February '08 and wondered if anyone could recommend a picturesque/unspoilt beach not too far from Negombo, ideally not further than an hours drive away.

Also has anyone stayed at 'The Tulip of Ceylon, near Mawanella? I'm hoping to stay there for a couple of nights during my stay in Sri Lanka and wondered if anyone had any experience of the resort or the nearby area.

Thanks
Nicki

Hi Nicki,

Not much choice near Negombo. Beaches south of Colombo are far better.
Maybe Marawila, 1 hour to north, fits the needs - at least much more quiet than Negombo.

ToC hotel is run by a well-known philantropist and distant friend of us, Jan Stokman. Gets good reviews. We still haven't stayed there ourselves, sorry.

All the best,

<Erik> & [Sandya]

Hi, I have a question - where are you staying? If you wanted somewhere quiet, I could recommend a friend's apartment, close to Negombo and a short drive from the airport. He would meet you at the airport regardless of when you arrived, ensuring safe travel from the airport to his home and your apartment. His email is: jonraytandy@yahoo.com.

As for the beaches around Negombo, I visited the beaches by both Browns Beach Hotel and one further along the coast. In June/July both were quiet, clean and soft sand that, if one got too close to the sea, you could easily sink into.

John can recommend beaches, hotels and, should you need it, arrange travel to and from any tourist location. Lucky is listed on the forums and is a personal friend of John. If Lucky is unavailable he will recommend a suitable driver who, like him, speaks both English and Sinhalese, is honest and will take you where you want to go.

Enjoy your holiday.
