Varanasi Travel Forum

Hi,

It puzzles me finding out what is the best route to cover these destination. I plan to go to Nepal from India, visiting Varanasi and Bodh Gaya before enterning Nepal.

What is the better route? Can i go from Bodh Gaya to Lumbini or Kathmandu directly? Is it possible to travel from Varanasi to Lumbini first before arriving Kathmandu.

I don't mind travel on bus and train. I assume that scene along the way must be rewarding. But having very limited time, I would appreciate if you give me some tips of the route to avoid unnecessary duplicate trips, such as

Varanasi- Bodh Gaya - Varanasi (again)- Kathmandu- Lumbini- Kathmandu (again)- Everest base camp.

hello, i am french so sorry for my english........in brief i have done already 3 times Varanasi- Bodh Gaya- Lumbini- Kathmandu route by train, bus and car and i will do it once more on the next february;you can take a domestic flight to vanarasi and then the train to Gaya and the bus to bodhgaya and the bus to lumbini anyway you pass near Lumbini when u are on the KTM road so you can have a kool stop in lumbini. also the place is very "special". Kathmandu is the central city in nepal so if you want to go on the everest base camp anyway u have to come back after on KTM to flight back or what else.

What is the appeal of the Bodh Gaya and Lumbini destinations?

Bodh Gaya is the place where Buddha got his Supreme Enlightening and attained the Buddhahood.

Lumbini is the birth place of Buddha.

Both places are significant destinations if you want to focus on the cultural/historical dimension of the trip.
