Thanks to some good feedback from my Lanzarote post, I decided to post a sequel and see if I could get some help planning our 1 day on Tenerife. This winter we're taking a cruise to the Canary Islands with some friends, and we're trying to figure out what to do on our short port days at the different islands. This is our first trip to the Canaries, and we know we won't be able to do any of the islands justice, but we can always go back!

So, if you had one day (8:00-17:00) to explore from Santa Cruz de Tenerife, where would you go and what would you do?

Allowing for meals and coffee stops I think you could happily spend a full day in Santa Cruz. To visit the lovely towns of Orotava or La Laguna you would need to use Public Transport - the Tourist Information office is very close to the Ferry Port so I would start by picking up information there. A street plan is very useful and you will get one their if your ship does not provide this kind of information,

In Santa Cruz in addition to the things I have mentioned on my VT Tenerife Tips Pages there is also the Fine Arts Museum in Calle Jose Murphy, Plaza del Principe; many fine churches and Public Gardens.

Or you can rent a car (is not expensive) and take a tour of the island and eat some traditional fish in a local village on the cost with a very good glass of wine ! Happy travel and enjoy your vacation! Gabriel

You cannot visit Tenerife and miss Mout Teide National Park. You can either hire a car, or join an organised tour.

I agree that Mount Teide is an amazing sight - one of the very few to which I would apply that over used word - awesome!

We actually stayed up in the mountains within the foothills of Teide.So we were well placed in the middle of Tenerife.
But you have only within one day ... to see an island... so decision time is looming! Hope you enjoy whatever you decide to see.

I'd go for Teide to. The view is great, you can see loads of the island! If you're renting a car and you've got some spare time, check out the area north of Santa Cruz: Anaga Mountains, it's got great nature!
