Canberra Tidbinbilla National Reserve: How to Get There
Posted: Tue October 2, 2007 11:06 PM UTC
Hi everyone! My boyfriend and I will be in Canberra for 3 days approximately a week and a half from now. We would really like to spend a day in the Tidbinbilla National Reserve. However, we won't be renting a car there. (Neither of us is brave enough to take on the left side of the road!)

Do any of you know if there are any buses or trains that go out there? We'd even be willing to take a taxi, just as long as we knew they would go out there, and how much to budget for that roundtrip cab ride. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Hi there,

when I was there the roads to the Tidbinbilla Nature Reserve were so empty that you would not have crashed into anybody if you had driven on the wrong side LOL

No, seriously:
I was not aware that there would be public transport, we have not seen any bus while on the road.

But even if you could get there by bus you would still need transportation within the reserve, as a loop road leads to the many walks you can make there to watch wildlife.

As the reserve is 40km from Canberra a cab ride could become extremely expensive. You would not only have to pay for 2x40km but also the kms on the loop road, and the time of the driver, as he would have to wait for you while you walk around.

I have posted a map of the reserve on my Tidbinbilla page. Check it and you will see what to expect.

And did YOU find anything helpful on those pages?

One page has run out of bandwidth, the second one just gives information for the case you drive by car, and the third one (Graylines) does not even list Canberra...
