There are mini-buses going to Phuket via Krabi, tickets can be purchased from any agents near the Haiyai train station.
What I did once is take the mini-bus from Haiyai to Krabi, stayed there for a couple of days, then take the speed boat from Krabi to Phuket, the boat will stop at the Bamboo Island and P.P. Island, the journey is very enjoyable.

And one more thing, do you have any idea how long will it take from Hatyai to Krabi? And Krabi to Phuket by boat ... regards ray
