Hi, we are a rock band and need to get from London to Belgrade as cheaply as possible in January 2008. It seems that flights to Belgrade are quite expensive. Are there any cheap/low fare airlines that go to other airports/cities that are in reasonable distance from Belgrade (about 4 hours drive)?

No cheap cheap flights to Belgrade I could find, though www.cheapflights.co.uk has some reasonable prices (not for your dates though.....too soon yet). www.whichbudget.com lists all budget carriers in Europe, with destinations.

You could fly into Croatia (Zagreb, with Wizzair) or Slovenia (Maribor, with Ryanair?) but I doubt any hire firm would let you take a car over the border into Serbia. So you're either looking at a train journey, or a higher-priced flight.

You may try to fly to Budapest also (Budapest-Beograd is 15 Euro by train one-way, 26 round-trip).
But normally JAT (www.jat.com) is not that bad regarding London-Beograd pricing. At least, this Summer a Virgin Atlantic SFO-LHR flight was considerably more expensive, than SFO-LHR-BEG on Virgin till LHR and on JAT from LHR.

Forgot to say, I was able to rent a large van (Dodge Grand Caravan) from Polip Rent a Car in Budapest for as I remember 11000 Ft/day and they had no problem to let me drive it to Serbia.

the only low fares airline I know that goes to Beograd is Germanwings; still not from London directly, I fear. But they are leaving to Beograd from several German airports like, for example, Köln/ Bonn and Munich. So if you could make it to one of these places first you could jump on the Germanwings flight there.

It looks we will. Even more, it looks like we will move back to Europe for good this time.
We did visit Manasija, but we never against repeating good things.

BTW: I am looking for a NAS server for 1000Dar, the monks seem to want to get one installed. :-)
