My son is planning to work an internship in Rotterdam and I have some questions. I don't think his health insurance plan in the U.S. covers him in Rotterdam. How does one go about getting insurance for a 6 months stay?
Approximately what does housing cost if he lives with a roommate? Is it hard to find a roommate since he doesn't know anyone there?

A travel insurance can cover the health issue.

Just the room rent will be around Euro 400 per month (this might include water, electricity etc, but make sure on forehand).
He will need Internet, some form of transportation and weekend activities funding too.

Finding a roommate: via message boards on the Internet or help from ones where he will have the internship.

About the insurance:

You might want to look a bit more into this since an ordinary travel insurance might not cover a stay as an internship.

Some insurance companies offer special insurances for this situation. If your son is having an internship at e.g. an university, they will have more info.
