Yosemite National Park Yosemite in mid-March

My husband & I are flying from the east coast to Las Vegas in mid-March on business. We are considering extending our stay by 3 days & driving up to Yosemite. Is mid-march too early for wildflowers & waterfalls?

too early and the tioga pass will likely still be closed so the drive would be pretty long. death valley which is near vegas is usually good for wildflowers in march.

Yes, too early. As the previous poster said March can be good for wildflowers in DV and although its much smaller there is also a waterfall (Darwin Falls) that you can hike to there.

I agree, Tioga Pass won't open until May/June so the drive will not be worth it. However, DV in March would be a great spot or drive to Hoover Dam and/or Grand Canyon.

The falls is located in the NW part of the park off of route 190 a little bit past the town of Panamint Springs. Its the first road past the town on the left and although its dirt there is no problem taking a non 4 wheel drive or high clearance vehicle on it. Drive until you see a parking area on the right side of the road and park there. Follow the trail and in about a mile you will reach the oasis and foliage. Before that you'll begin to see some water flowing. Keep following the trail to the end and there you'll find the falls and a very nice pool of water to swim in (if its warm enough).

Check out the Mt Charleston area, within easy driving distance of Las Vegas. This is where the locals go for skiing and pine trees 45 miles NW of Downtown Las Vegas. Take US Hwy 95 to Kyle Canyon Rd (NV Hwy 157)

if yo go to death valley, you can stay at either the furnace creek ranch or the furnace creek inn. they are both really close to each other. the inn is very upscale, the inn more like a nice motel. great pool there. there is one other motel complex within the park but it is a very basic motel.
while there, be sure to do the tour of scotty's castle...very interesting.
