| San Diego | Where to find live music in SD? Posted: Wed September 26, 2007 11:30 PM UTC
Hi, I'll be in California for 2 months (november, december) and have no luck with finding some entertainment there. Does anyone know any websites where I can get info about interesting live concerts? I'm interested in jazz, latin etc, not into hard rock. Aslo, it would be nice to find interesting art exhibitions (found only the Da Vinci:An Exhibition of Genius). If you're from San Diego and know how to get around- PLEASE HELP!!

Besides Croce's, there are lots of places throughout San Diego that offer live Jazz in San Diego, such as at The Cask Room on Tuesday nights.
One of the easiest ways to find out what is going on in the Jazz world is to check out these websites: http://www.jazz88.org/ http://www.kifm.com/listen/index.cfm They announce the various venues, dates and times etc. As for Latin Music, Cafe Sevilla offers this as I'm sure other places do as well. Also you may get more information from any of the Latin Music radio stations in town. As for Art, there are quite a few choices depending where your interests lead you. The major museums are, Fine Arts Gallery of San Diego and the Timken Art Gallery in Balboa Park, Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego, two locations, La Jolla and downtown SD. There are local art displays such as, "Ray at Night" which celebrates the arts and art galleries in North Park. Also throughout the city several local art shows are organized in a park setting at Balboa Park or Shelter Island and are available once a month or so. This does not include the mulitude of art galleries you'll find in places such as La Jolla, downtown SD, Seaport Village or the various other communities in San Diego.

Yes, you are right they do, as well as the Coors Ampitheater, House of Blues, The Belly Up and other such places but, these concert venues aren't limited to Jazz or Latin music and usually are more expensive than you'd find at a restaurant or bar.

There's a new place in Little Italy called Anthology that is specializing in jazz - kind of a supper club deal, more high-end. (www.anthologysd.com) Little Italy also has art exhibitions but since you're not out until November you'll miss Festa.
Dizzy's in the East Village should be re-opening about the time you're here. www.dizzyssandiego.com The Belly Up in Solana Beach is more reggae and blues than jazz, but they do have Salsa Sundays and it's in a neat area - more upscale interior design than arty-art. Even if reggae, rock or blues aren't your usual fare, the BUT's worth checking out. If you're a salsero, you might check www.salsasandiego.net for other options. Besides Ray at Night there's TNT (Thursday Night Thing) at the Downtown Museum of Contemporary Art the first Thursday of each month. You should also check UCSD's events for music and art options. If you have a car while you're here, you might want to see what's playing at the California Center for the Arts in Escondido or the Poway and East County Performing Arts Centers.
