Bolzano Not sure about base location :(
Posted: Tue September 25, 2007 05:46 PM UTC
Dear VTers,

we (2 couples on late 20s) will be for a 3 wk holiday in Italy.
Will visit Rome (looking for some history & points of interest),
visit Fiesole (looking for points of interest & Firenze),
visit Sirmione (looking for lakes & fun),
and will also visit Alto Adige Bolzano area next June for 7 days. We're looking for hikes, nature, lakes, culture & the alps.

We would like to stay in a self catering accomodation (preferably an Agriturismo). We would like to stay in a small town, in a country side to enjoy nature & walking. We are trying to avoid cities and are looking for a peaceful place where to spend our 7 days in heaven. From our base we would like to visit Bolzano, Madonna di Campilio, Cortina D'ampezzo, Tures, Insbruck.

Lot of you suggested Cortina D'Ampezzo. Seems like a excellent place but prices are sky high. Now I found another apartment in San Genesio, which will only cost us about EUR60 per night for an apartment sleeps 4.

Now our dilemma is :
Shall we stay in San Genesio or is it far from the mountains?
If we stay in a town on a mountain, wouldn't it be too far away from maybe some night life?

Thanks in advance,
Ronnie

To take in Cortina d'ampezzo and Madonna di Campiglio,Innsbruck etc., you really want to be basing yourself within 10/20 kms of Bolzano. The distance from Bolzano to the above resorts is about 130 kms in each direction. If you wanted to stay in Madonna di Campiglio, there are apartments available at Torre del Brenta. You will have to search around but they do have a website.

Have a look at "tini58.de" (VTer) Trentino Alto Adige page. She spennt a week in Nova Levante some months ago. She rent a flat there and she wrote many tips about Bolzano also.

Ciao!
