The opinion of people on the welfare of animals is surely universal - illtreatment is the same anywhere just as high welfare standards are.
So your question is not really a travel question. Try Miscellaneous Forum.

Ilargitxo- I agree with your sentiments absolutely!
I despise any cruelty to animals. I will never forget the awful spectacle we witnessed from our hotel room in Leikeitio involving fishermen in boats and live animals - as you are Spanish I think you will know what I am talking about. Pamplona; any bull-ring any where, caged birds all over the place... So I think you and I are agreed in our personal opinions on this matter. BUT that is the problem - we are in the realms now of personal opinion. Spain is not the only country where cruelty to animals takes place even though it may not be outlawed. Here in the UK we are seeing the revival of (forbidden) pit-bull dog fights and other examples of cruelty to animals.( Which have rsulted in the last few months in the savaging by dogs, trained to kill, of babies and infants in their own homes) So, in my opinion, this is a moral question rather than simply a travel question and requires a wider forum than people wanting to know the temperature, what bus goes where and the best hotels and restaurants and all the other things people want to know about travelling. Regards. Barbara

I agree that it should have been posted here- otherwise there would have been pages and pages about animal cruelty witnessed all over the world. The 'poster' was asking specifically about the Seville carriage horses.
We noticed ,when there a couple of years ago, that the horses did appear to be overworked in the sweltering heat of summer. They were given water to drink at a fawcet in the street at their resting place,to which the drivers had a key, but not much resting time.Too much money to be made for that! Incidentally my friend was 'stung' over the price of our ride. She was the worse for wear with alcohol, her usual state, and they took advantage of her.She spoke fluent Spanish, I didn't, so I didn't realise, till afterwards, what she'd paid.
