| New Orleans | 5 days in new orleans - Is French Quarter the best location for first timers? Posted: Tue September 25, 2007 12:15 PM UTC
I am planning a trip in october to new orleans... this will be our first time. We are planning mostly to go enjoy good music and food. Is the french quarter the best location to stay? Budget is not a big issue at this point.
Any lodging recommendations? |

If you want to be in the middle of things the French Quarter is what you want, but it can get somewhat noisy especially on weekends. The Hotel Monteleone is in a nice location. Check out the carousal bar in the lobby. On the other side of Canal street is the Financial District which has some hotels that might be less expensive. You could go a little further away(about one mile or so) into the Garden Distric(near Tulane University). I would stay away from the airport area. Too far.
Enjoy your trip.

i'd stay in the french quarter. when we were there, we stayed a few blocks away from bourbon street - towards the river and the casino boat.
Chateau Hotel French Quarter, 1001 Chartres Street we liked it cause it was away from all the noise but still within walking distance of everything. the rooms were a little small but we were only in them to sleep so didn't really matter. it has a small outdoor pool.

Guys, I think you would have the most fun if you stayed in the Quarter. I would recommend the Omni Royal Orleans. It has a roof top pool( very nice bikini my dear) and a great restaurant. It is located one block off Bourbon. Far enough away to get some rest but within stumbling distance after a night out. Come on down and have a great time. Hope to see you there and I will bring some beads that you can earn.

I haven't stayed here, but I've heard that the "W" is the French Quarter is fabulous. Their beds are supposed to be the most comfortable in the hotel industry.
By the way, don't miss the music scene on Frenchmen Street.
