| Halifax | Where to stay in Halifax, NS for a few days in June, 2008? Posted: Tue September 25, 2007 06:05 AM UTC
Greetings:
I have a friend who will be flying into Halifax, NS on June 22, 2008 and he will be leaving for the Middle East on June 28, 2008. Can anyone suggest a reasonable place (i.e., if possible, under $100 CAD a night) for him to stay during this period of time? He will be alone and he is on a tight budget (e.g., he is paying for this stay himself) so the cheaper the better. Frankly, what he really need is just a big bed for a few days before he embarks on a long flight. That’s it for now. Any suggestions or recommendations are greatly appreciated. |

There are lots of Bed and Breakfast places, many of which are private homes. The prices can be really quite reasonable
Try: Garden View Bed and Breakfast 6052 Williams St Halifax, Nova Scotia, B3K 1E9 Email: carol.sifton@ns.sympatico.ca Phone: 1-902-423-2943 or 1-888-737-0778 Fax: 1-902-423-4355 This one starts at $65.00 a night and is centrally located, so your friend could travel on foot or by transit.

If you are just looking for a bed, there is a Hilton Garden Inn near the airport that is reasonable and has a restaurant. If you purchase in advance, it should fit in the budget. Call the hotel direct 902 873 1400 and tell them you need a room for $100 a night and can they help out. Do it far enough in advance and you should get the rate. Be advised that this hotel has a courtesy shuttle from the airport but is in the middle of nowhere! If you want to travel into the city, then you will need to rent a car and it is about a 25 - 30 minute drive. forget the taxi, (unless you do not drive) just a one way trip will pay for a days rental of a car.
for an inexpensive option, we have stayed at the Days Inn at Burnside in Dartmouth. the rooms are good, there is usually a refrigerator and there is free internet. You will need to rent a car to get there, but then you will have it to toodle around the city. It is easy to get to from the airport, mostly highway travel, and it is near the McKay bridge into Halifax. Again, this is not a downtown hotel, but it is a lot closer to the city than the Hilton. Call them direct at 902 465 6555. Other than that, there are sometimes deals at: www.checkinnovascotia.com or the regular sites like Yahoo or Travelocity.ca Hope this helps.

HoJo in Dartmouth is where I always stay in Halifax (just across the bridge) $80 or less will get a double with kitchenette within walking distance of all the shops and restaurants. Book a room with private balcony, a view of the harbour and downtown + free wireless internet.
