With so much talk about VT meetings around here, I thought I'd announce a new one. I've not been to this event, but watching pumpkins fly through the air with the greatest of ease, and the hanging around in a cornfield in early winter, drinking beer, building fires, and wearing plaid is oddly compelling to me. How about you?

On November 3, come to Bridgeville, Delaware, to watch the Pumpkin Chunkin' contest. Bridgeville is sort of in the middle of nowhere, so about two hours—or less—from many of the Mid-Atlantic's somewhere spots: Baltimore, DC, and Philadelphia.

We'll meet at that fabulous Jimmy's Grille in Bridgeville, probably around noon. Better fried chicken, biscuits, and pies you'd be hard pressed to find, and then we'll carpool to the Pumpkin Chunkin' field.

Cost is $7 per person, and $2 per car for parking.

We can (and should) bring food and beverages, including beer, wine, whatever; folding chairs and blankets are helpful, too.

If anyone wants to travel in for this major fest, we'll have drinks and dinner in Baltimore the night before.

I seen ya in da forms! C'mon and join the conversation on dis meeting on the misc forum, tho it quickly descended into a discussion of pig byproducts.

Honestly, all the mid-Atlantic VTers I've contacted about this meeting all "claim" (to add emphasis, imagine air quote) to be busy, including doing stuff like, errrr, traveling!

As sweet as this sounds, (and as appropriate as this event is for bubba) i think i might actually be on the road when this is happening...doh! i think i'm supposed to be in california in early november for work...wait, do i really work? i thought i was a professional lazyass.

interestingly, i just drove past bridgeville this monday morning...and was eating some delicious bbq in baltimore last night!

where'd you have bbq? Big Bad Wolf? (well, that's probably where I'd send ya.) And, you were in Charm City and NO steamed crabs or crabcakes?) My, my!

i think it was a place called rub...pretty good food...and the plate was HUGE!

i've been going through baltimore for years now and still have yet to have any crabs out there! oh well, maybe next time which will be i about two weeks...which is also when i start my roadtrip eating my way across the country.

And, you're in luck (and you can verify this with Hexe, if you don't believe me), I am the reining champion of knowing where to get good, cheap local eats. (And, then Patty will make some crack about how I always end up ordering for the table....)

That should work. I'll take you on my not quite patented Lexington Market eating tour. (I've taken loads of people on it the last few months). Just prepare to be full.

If I can't make, will send along detailed instructions on which stall you should hit, and in which order!
